Marvelous Monday

Hi Parents,

Today we continued our talk on winter.  We also discussed how some places are colder than others and people live in different kinds of houses  (there is a great little videon on sesamestreet.org about this).  We watched a short you tube about Eskimoes building igloos.  Then each student received a cut out of an igloo.  We practiced making horizontal and vertical lines to draw the ice cubes.  Then students were able to practices making crosses for the snow in the sky.

One reminder...please send your child's folder to school everyday.  At the beginning of the year I had some extra in case someone lost theirs; however, I am now out of extras so unfortunately papers and notes will just have to be put into back packs.  If you have more than one folder please send it back.

Mark your calendar for Friday, March 23 at 9:00am for the Spring Show!  We have started rehearsing some and we are good!  Please send in a solid white t-shirt by March 1, 2012.  This shirt will be tye dyed and used for costumes.

You also have homework! I would like you and your child to decorate a paper bag/shoe box for Valentine’s  Please bring it to school by Monday, February 13 along with a picture of your child working on it so we can talk about it as a group.  Below are the requirements

Requirements:
-          Make sure you and your child do this project TOGETHER!
-          Make sure an adult sized hand can reach into the bag/box easily
-          Make sure it has your child’s first name on it and that it can be easily located.  Your student can trace, write, or put their name on with stickers.  See if your child can correctly sequence their name or identify the first the letter!
-  If you are using stickers to decorate be sure to use a pincer grasp when pulling them off.
-  If use small objects like pom poms, small jewels or beads- try picking them up with tweezers, tongs, clothespins or chip clips for hand strengthening
-          Be creative!  Make it a project you and your child enjoy!
- A list of the children in the class will go home at the end of this week if you want to send in Valentine's on Tuesday, February 14.
