More Dr. Seuss

This morning we read Bartholomew and the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss.  Students then helped me make our own oobleck (the recipe can be found here ).  The kids loved it!  We made a very gooey mess!  Then the students gave me words to describe what happened and we wrote them down on a large sheet of paper.

In the afternoon, we read The Lorax  by Dr. Seuss.  After this book we talked about how important it is to recycle.  Then we drew rectangles and circles to draw the truffuala trees from the stories.  Then to make our truffuala trees more festive we decorated them with feathers and glitter.

Please send in some extra supplies!  Please either send in a packet of plates or a packet of plastic cups to help make us through the rest of the school year!  Also I need your white t-shirts!

More fun

m Hi Parents-

Today was another fun day!  We listened to Dr. Seuss's Green Eggs and Ham on CD and did a dance to Green Eggs and Ham the song!  In the afternoon we worked on tracing lines between the green eggs and ham to the plates and silverware then cutting on those lines.
Ms
We have had many sick kiddos lately.  =(  A couple of reminders that a child needs to be fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication to come to school.  As well as a child must be diarrhea free and vomit free while eating the foods they normal eat.

Please send in your white t-shirt for the show!

Also we are having another Chick-Fil-A night on Wednesday, March 7 from 6pm-7pm for preschool.  Feel free to join Mrs. Massey and Mrs. Emily with your family.  We are meeting at the Chick-Fil- A on the corner of Holcomb Bridge and Hwy 9.

Dear Parents,

This is a week for Dr. Seuss!  Today we started by listening to Cat in the Hat read by Justin Bieber found on You Tube.  Then using our shapes (circle, triangle, and rectangle) we created Cat in the Hat faces.  The kids worked on making the same face and talking about the pattern of the hat (red, white, red, white).  On Friday is Read Across America where we will celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday!

PLEASE send in your white t-shirt for us to tie dye as for costumes for the spring show.

Also PLEASE send in any plastic grocery bags you have left over from your shopping trips.  We use a lot of plastic bags for diapers and yucky clothes.

Sharing

Hi Families-

I hope you are enjoying a relaxing Friday at home.  Don't forget school is also closed on Monday!  I will be ready to greet the kiddos with a giant grin on Tuesday.

Thursday was a great day to talk about sharing.  We opened the class with a story about little Bert and Little Ernie and the importance of sharing toys.  Circle time was focused on turn taking and sharing.  We watched a short video on sharing that you find here Sharing video.  The sesame street website has a lot of great resources.  Then we read and acted out the story of Stone Soup.  The lesson we talked about is how we should share things we have so then everyone can be happy.  I saw many of your children implementing the idea of sharing when it came to toys, balls, and bikes that day.

Another great thing about Thursday is that the administration team came to recess.  Kindergarten and Pre-K won for having the highest contribution to Pennies for Patients this year.  The prize is administration comes to recess.  Your kids had a ball as they hula hooped with Ms. Meyers, rolled a ball with Mrs. Coleman and Mrs. Holcomb, rode tricycles with Mrs. Smith, played catch with Mrs. Patorgis, and laughed with Mrs. Barker-Carlisle. The pictures we took are hysterical.  You may be seeing some of them on the school website.  If you are uncomfortable with your child's picture appearing on the school website please e-mail me by Monday to let me know.

Thank you everyone for your Box Tops donations!  We had just over 500 Box Tops!  Woo Hoo!  I have already started planning on what we need and what we would like.  Don't forget I need your plain white t-shirt for tie dying by March 1!!!

Next week we will be talking about fairy tales!  We will be focusing our energy on Shrek and Tangled!  I think it will be fun for the students to see the different characters in the stories and talk about princes, princesses, etc.  The following week we will be talking about Dr. Seuss (particular emphasis will be Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs and Ham)

Remember I am always available by e-mail and phone!  I have had a lot of meetings lately so it takes me a tad longer to call back then usual, but please leave a message and I will get back to you!

March 1- Send in your plain white t-shirt for Mrs. Massey to tie dye

More talk on Valentine's Day

Hi Parents-

Our Valentine's Day talk has continued today.  Today in the morning the students put hearts in order from biggest to smallest.

Don't forget tomorrow to have your student bring in their Valentine's Box/Bag along with their Valentine's to give out and their BOX TOPS!  Please please send them in!

Also please make sure to send in your white t-shirt for us to tie dye for the show.

Carpool!

If your child normally rides carpool in the morning and they will not be coming through carpool please let me know through e-mail or text as soon as possible.  There are adults who specifically wait outside for our children in the morning and they worry if your child does not come through carpool.

If your child does not normally ride carpool and they will be riding in carpool in the morning please text or e-mail as soon as possible so I can alert the carpool volunteers.  Make sure to tell the volunteers you have a preschool special education student.

I know this is not a perfect system, but we are trying our best to keep the kids safe.

Now for some activities from our OT's:

Fine Motor Fun:

· Pretty Patterns: Practice making patterns using Sweetheart Candy (colored hearts). Arrange the candy in a sequence and see if your child can finish the pattern (ie. Pink-White-Pink-White). You can make the task more challenging by making the pattern more complex.
· Color Sorting: Practice color recognition and sorting using Sweetheart candy.
· Grasping Skills: Work on pincer grasp by having your child pick up the small candy with thumb and index finger. Use tweezers/tongs to pick up the candy to work on hand strengthening and hand-eye coordination.
· Pre-writing: Practice pre-writing strokes (vertical and horizontal lines, circles) or shapes. Fold the paper and put it into an envelope.  These activities work on bilateral hand use.

Happy Groundhogs Day!

Dear Parents,

We have had a great time learning about Groundhog's Day!  Students have created patterns with the sun and clouds and matched shadows by matching black and white shapes.  Additonally yesterday we made a chart to see how many students thought the groundhog would see his shadow and how thought he wouldn't.  Then we found a video to show the announcement of what happened.  Starting tomorrow we will spend time talking about Valentine's Day!  Students will work on big and little and how words on the paper are the same things that come from our both.

Don't forget your Valentine's boxes/paper bags are due on Monday, February 13!  Please also send a picture of your child working on it.

You should receive a piece of paper with a note about creating a card for Ms. Brooke.  Ms. Brooke is getting married this Saturday!  Please create a special wedding card for us to give her once she returns.

Also please remember to send in a white shirt that can be tie dyed fo our spring show on March 23 at 9:00am!

One more important thing:  if your child is in diapers/pull ups please send in a container of wipes!  We are running very, very low!
