Dr. Seuss Week

Dear Parents,

As always Dr. Seuss week has started out with great fun.  On Monday we read Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You? and students practiced the different sounds in the book.  Today (Tuesday) we read Hop on Pop and The Lorax.  Students created the truffula trees using construction paper and their fluffy tops using paint.  Wednesday and Thursday I will be out, but Mr. Mike will continue with our Dr. Seuss theme.  On Wednesday we will be discussing Green Eggs and Ham.  On Thursday and Friday we will be discussing The Cat in the Hat as well as celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday with a special treat.

Starting Monday we will begin our unit on Community Helpers and our new nursery rhyme I'm a Little Tea Pot.  If you have a job that you would like to come in and discuss with the kids please let me know.

March's Homework
The homework for March is a Yes I Can Poster.  Exceptional Children's week is the first week of March.  During Exceptional Children's week we celebrate our special children here at the school.  There are posters of various famous individuals with disabilities around the school showing how they worked hard and triumphed.  I would like each of my children to make posters showing all the things they can do.  You can put pictures of your child, statements of what they can do, drawings, or magazines pictures.  You can put any statement on the poster that your child can do (I can swim, I can run, I can dress myself, I can add, I read, etc.).  These posters will be displayed around the school.  If you would not like your child's ppster displayed outside the classroom please let me know; however, the students take a lot of pride walking and seeing their posters up around the school.  Please have your poster to me by Monday, March 4!

Just a reminder I am out on Wednesday and Thursday.  Please call the front office with any concerns.

The end of the Kissing Hand

Dear Parents,

Today was our last day of reading the Kissing Hand.  We used dot dot art to make a R and then used pom poms on top of the dot dot.  Earlier this week we made Raccoon faces out of paper plates and put the correct number of conversation hearts on numbers.  Next week is our week to celebrate Dr. Seuss's birthday by reading all sorts of different Dr. Seuss books.

Happy (almost) Valentine's Day!

Dear Parents,

The Kissing Hand has lent itself to be a wonderful book to talk about Valentine's Day.  Students love to kiss the palm of their hand and hold it to their cheek.  Also our Georgie Porgie Nursery Rhyme has become a wonderful part of our routine.  We have also spent a lot of time doing Skinny Marinky Dinky Dink and singing Little Wheel. Students have been very excited as we talk about and point out hearts.

Terrific Tuesday

Dear Parents,

The first week of February has started out great for us.  We are now reading the Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn and practicing the Georgie Porgie Nursery Rhyme.  On Monday the kids measured laminated hearts using cubes.  They would put the blocks on the black line and count the number of blocks they see.  In Art  we finished our snowman art work with faces and body parts.  Today the morning group worked on Valentine Day hand puppets and making the special cards we will be mailing with the envelopes you sent in.  Today the afternoon group focused on the concept of big and little and practiced sorting pictures.

Also now joining us is Catilin Moreau from Georgia State one day a week.  On Wednesday Caitilin will come in and help support the students.

Here is a brief blurb from Catilin.

Hi!  My name is Caitlin Moreau and I am a student teacher from Georgia State University.  I am very excited to be joining Mrs. Massey on Wednesdays.  This will be a great experience and I hope to learn a lot while enjoying my time here.  A big thanks to Mrs. Massey and the class for letting me join in!

Keep collecting your box tops! Last collection is February 14! Even if you only send in 2 that is still $0.20!

Have a great day!
