The students and I had a lot of fun talking about St. Patrick's Day this week. Did your student mention that silly leprechaun made a mess of Mrs. Massey's room? Students walked into shamrocks, beads, glitter, streamers, etc on Thursday as a leprechaun made a mess of Mrs. Massey's room! Students also enjoyed special green St. Patrick's Day treats- the morning group enjoyed green lime jello and the afternoon group enjoyed green pudding!
It was a busy week full of learning! On Monday Ms. Wendy helped us make a rainbow collage which involved tearing various colors of paper and glueing it into a spiraling circle out. On Tuesday afternoon we finished up with our lambs for the other side of our lions to go with the month of March. On Wednesday we talked about size and put Shamrock pictures in order from largest to smallest. On Thursday we made paper leprechaun hats and talk about the different shapes of the different pieces.
We also continued some of our talk about community helpers. Monday mornings group Mr. Clausen (yes, Ms. Brooke's husband) came in to show us his fire gear and talk about fire safety. Tuesday afternoon groups was able to talk to a fire fighter and climb through a fire truck. On Thursday morning a police officer came in and talked to us about safety and how to call 911 in an emergency.
Boosterthon is coming up! This is in an in school fun run where all students can participate. Students will be asked to raise money for the school and can earn prizes based on the amount of money they raise. Everyday the Boosterthon guys will come visit the classroom and talk about the character lesson of the day. This years theme is Highway USA where students are on the road to making good choices. Students will learn lessons about the importance of making good choices. In fact the whole school is getting into the theme because all the teachers are decorating their doors to places you would stop "on the road." On the day of the fun run every student will receive a t-shirt (no matter how much or how little money they raise) and they get to go run laps to music outside. There is a water station for kids if they get thirsty. Also preschool will be bringing out our wagons in case our little legs get tired. Each student will get to participate to the best of their ability. There will be a packet of information coming home in the next couple of days. If you would like to learn more about the information check them out at http://www.boosterthon.com/.
The Art Soiree is also around the corner. This is a fun grown ups night out with great food and company. Each class in the school creates an art project for people to bid on. Our class also will have a project you can bid on. Each student will have a hand in creating it. Look for more information in the RNE e-mail.
