A little late is better than never

Hi Everyone!  Sorry to be posting about last week on Sunday, but as per usual life sometimes has different plans than you do.  First recap thanks for everyone who was able to participate in our Mother's Day Snack.  Your children were absolutely adorable as they performed point your finger and skinny marinky dinky dink.  I hope you enjoyed the presents they made with their own hands and snacks.  Have a Happy Mother's Day!

Friday was also an exciting day.  As part of our Very Hungry Caterpillar Unit we have been talking about spring.  One of the topics from spring was birds: laying eggs, building nests, and flying.  Susan helped us build a bird's nests out of plastic grass for Big Bird.  The students than raced around the yard picking up colorful plastic eggs to put in the bird's nest.  We talked about shape, size, color, and number.  Upon finding all the eggs the students raced inside to create their own bird's nests.  You probably the student's brought home their own EDIBLE bird's nests.  These nests were made from chow mein noodles, peanut butter, marshmallows, butter, jelly beans, and Peeps.  This activity challenged to students to push and pull the mixture to make a circle with a hole.  The kids loved it!  There are many recipes available on the Internet for Chow Mein Noodle Nests if you would like to make a variation at home.  This activity was a great way to challenge students to work with different tactile experiences, color, shape, and counting.  In the afternoon we took the children to Roswell Area Park.  They loved walking through the park and talking about the leaves being green, mud vs dirt, and looking at the stream.  Once at the park they played on the swings and slide.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend and getting lots of rest!  Our last couple of weeks at school are fun filled!

Happy Mother's Day!
