Happy Artist Day!

Dear Parents,

I can honestly say that Artist Day is one of my favorite days of the year.  This is a wonderful opportunity for the kids to see various artists perform/create.  Each activity is 15 minutes with 5 minutes built in for time to transition.  This schedule works beautifully because the periods are short so the kids do not have enough time to get antsy, but rather stay enthralled with the whole process.  The kids loved traveling to seeing the different artists.  In the morning we saw a painter, violin and piano duet, outside play time, a potter creating a clay jug, reggae band (steel drum, drum set, and electric guitar), and a story teller.  After a lunch break  and a little bit of down time we then saw a woman make orgami, a guitarist, more outside time, dancers from North Springs High School, and Chinese instruments.  Ask them which was their favorite!

Also look in the next couple of days for a manilla envelope in your student's backpack.  Our Teacher in training Ms. Alex is heading to college (University of Alabama) this fall to start her degree in special education.  She has been a wonderful asset to the classroom and your kids truly love her.  Please decorate this piece of construction paper (do not fold and keep horizontal) for us to make a special book for her.  Please include a picture of your child somewhere in it, but please do not put anything 3D on it because we will be laminating it for her to keep safe.  Please return by Thursday, May 10.  We will be presenting it to her as a class and have a small ice cream celebration.

Also please remind your child there are 3 weeks left in school so I still expect wonderful behavior.  I know we are getting close to the end, but there is still learning to be done.
