Today we went and saw Mrs. Powell in the library for story time. She read to us Caps for Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina. Mrs. Powell is a very magical storyteller who keeps all the children involved and fascinated throughout the story. Mrs. Powell first reads through the story with the kids and asks them questions and for their thoughts. Then she rereads the story and summarizes what is happening using the children's words and her own. This second reading allows for the children to have some extra processing time to understand and appreciate the story. After the readings, she pulls out a stack of books from which the kids can choose one to check out. After checkout we bring the books down to the classroom and they enhance our classroom library for a couple of weeks.
Also today we had a fire drill. The kiddos did a great job following directions and staying quiet during this time.
